Shawn Paul's Story: 15 Years of Psoriasis, Gone in One Month
"I Was Just Absolutely Ecstatic" — Shawn Paul's Psoriasis Story
It Started at 18
Shawn Paul developed psoriasis as a teenager. It began in his scalp. The first doctor he saw didn't recognize it — called it "CAPS cradle" and had nothing to offer. It wasn't until Shawn joined the military that a doctor correctly identified it and prescribed triamcinolone, a steroid cream.
"I had the cream, I put it on my body, it responded well, went away, and then probably about 3, 4, 5 years later, it just stopped responding."
— Shawn PaulOnce the steroids stopped working, Shawn made a deliberate decision not to go further down that road.
"I knew I was putting steroids on my skin. I really didn't want any of that on my skin, so I just stopped taking it."
— Shawn PaulTen to Fifteen Years With Patches
What followed was more than a decade of living with psoriasis on his legs and arms — visible, daily, unavoidable.
"Probably about 10, 15 years, I just basically walked around with patches all over my body. People walking up to me when I'm in my shorts, short sleeve t-shirts — the first thing that they do is they look at the psoriasis patches. People walk by you, they're staring at you. It was demoralizing."
— Shawn PaulHe tried other options during those years. A friend while camping introduced him to a product — Shawn looked it up, read the side effects, and threw it in the trash. He saw the TV commercials for biologic injections and had the same reaction.
"You look at all the TV ads about the shots and you know how people say they're free and then they got 15 seconds of that and 15 seconds of all the side effects — again, just nothing I wanted to have in my life."
— Shawn Paul
A Doctor in Honduras
Shawn has been a missionary for years — he was based in Honduras at the time, and is now in Guatemala. Out of desperation, he called a Honduran doctor friend and asked directly if there was anything that could help.
"He says, 'Shawn, I can prescribe you something, but it's extremely toxic. You don't even want to put it on your skin. But I will tell you this — there is a product that we sell down here in Central America. It's called Nopsor. It's actually from Mexico. We are getting very, very good reviews on this product. And it is not a medication — basically it is a coal tar base.'"
— Shawn Paul, quoting his Honduran doctor friendShawn's first reaction to "coal tar base" was immediate resistance — and he says so plainly.
"Don't shut off the video because I've had all the coal tar as well. I hate coal tar. It's disgusting, it's greasy and nasty. But there's eight herbs — proprietary herbs that they put into this product. That's what really actually makes this psoriasis go away."
— Shawn PaulHe also addresses what he noticed about the texture — different from the coal tar products he'd tried before.
"It's not the greasy, nasty stuff that stays on your arm for like five hours and you're wiping it all over everything. You can rub it into your skin. It does take a bit to rub it in, but it's not greasy and nasty."
— Shawn PaulOne Month
Shawn followed the instructions — shampoo first, then the pomade before bed. The product is designed to show results in about three months. His skin cleared in one.
"They say it takes about three months for it to go away. It took one month for it to go away. I was just absolutely ecstatic. I just could not even believe that this stuff went away."
— Shawn PaulHe's been using it preventively ever since. At the time he recorded his testimony, he noted a small patch on his elbow that had appeared two weeks earlier — and pointed it out specifically to make the point.
"My arms are totally free. My legs are totally free. You cannot identify any areas on my skin like, 'hey, that guy's got psoriasis.' I'm not gonna say that it makes it totally go away forever, but I just treat it periodically, preventively."
— Shawn PaulHe first bought Nopsor roughly four to five years before recording his testimony, and had just bought a new supply about three months before filming — a detail he mentions himself as a measure of how far a single purchase goes.
Paying It Forward
Shawn doesn't keep this to himself. He describes walking up to a woman in a mall because he recognized her psoriasis — and telling her what had worked for him.
"I walked to her and I said, look, I don't mean to embarrass you. But I am a former psoriasis sufferer. I know what you have and I tell you I have the answer for you. Why? Because I'm that passionate about this product."
— Shawn PaulA ministry worker whose father had psoriasis received the treatment through Shawn — the father's psoriasis cleared too. That's the same impulse that led him to hand the products to Michelle Logan's husband at her church in Kentucky — her story is told here: Michelle's 20-Year Psoriasis Story. The chain that connects them is told in full here: Twenty Years, One Conversation.
"Literally, I'm just telling you, this will change your life. So I highly recommend it."
— Shawn PaulShawn's note: "I'm not a doctor, I'm not a dermatologist — I highly recommend that you consult your doctor as well. But I would definitely check this out."
